Apple developed its own proprietary plugin architecture known as Audio Units (AU). Audio Units are integrated deeply into the macOS operating system core. Because Logic Pro is an Apple product, it is optimized strictly for the Audio Units architecture to ensure maximum stability, lower latency, and seamless integration with the macOS graphics environment.
By 2026, third-party plugins will be released as AUv3 by default, and VST support will slowly fade on macOS. If you are setting up Logic Pro X today, do not install VSTs. Uncheck them during installation. Only install the Audio Unit (AU) components. Vst Plugins For Logic Pro X
